Apple reportedly modifies iPhone 16 chassis to address overheating

Apple is reportedly implementing design changes in its upcoming iPhone 16 models to enhance heat dissipation. Citing The Information, the company is said to be incorporating a larger layer of graphite material into the chassis of the Pro models, which will aid in conducting heat away from the device's core components.

These adjustments follow reports of overheating issues experienced with the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max released last year. While Apple addressed these concerns through software updates and collaboration with app developers, the company aims to prevent similar problems from recurring with the next generation.

The modifications are seen as crucial given the increasing processing demands on future iPhones. The introduction of "Apple Intelligence" features, including on-device large language models and generative AI capabilities, will place greater loads on the processors. Enhanced Siri functionalities that interact with screen content will also require more computational power and generate additional heat.

Reports suggest Apple may equip all four iPhone 16 models, including the standard versions, with the new A18 chip. Improved thermal management will likely be essential for these devices to handle increasingly intensive tasks, such as gaming, an area that iOS 18 is also focusing on with a new gaming mode.
