Apple revises App Store rules for EU market

Apple is introducing new App Store rules for the European Union, which the company states are intended to address "disagreements with the Commission over business terms and alternative distribution."

Effective October 1st, all developers distributing apps will operate under a single set of business terms. A new Core Technology Fee of 5 percent will be applied to digital transactions for apps distributed outside the traditional App Store model.

For apps that utilize Apple's in-app purchase system, a commission of 26 percent will be charged. Developers opting for alternative payment systems will face a 20 percent fee.

The revised regulations are set to take effect this fall, marking a significant adjustment in Apple's approach to app distribution within the EU.
