Apple Sues OpenAI for Corporate Espionage, Theft of Trade Secrets

Apple has filed a lawsuit against AI company OpenAI, alleging widespread corporate espionage and the theft of confidential documents and hardware prototypes. According to the suit, OpenAI requested job applicants from Apple to bring work-in-progress components and unreleased product samples to interviews.

The lawsuit further claims that OpenAI induced one of Apple's trusted partners to perform a proprietary product design technique. Apple asserts that OpenAI exploited both its employees and partners to acquire critical technological information.

The legal action primarily focuses on three individuals. Among them is Tang Tan, a 24-year Apple veteran and former vice president of Apple Watch. Tan reportedly left Apple for OpenAI in 2024 and is alleged to have played a key role in facilitating the information gathering.

Apple is seeking court orders to halt all accused activities and is demanding compensation for damages. The company argues that these actions jeopardize its trade secrets and competitive standing in the rapidly evolving AI sector.
