Apple is poised to enter the smart home market with a new central control hub, with reports suggesting a launch date of October 13th. The device is anticipated to feature a 6-inch display and operate on a new system internally codenamed "Charismatic," possibly branded as homeOS.

The home hub will reportedly come in two form factors: a wall-mounted version and a desktop variant. Both are expected to include a roughly 6-inch square screen with a noticeable bezel. The desktop model is said to resemble the iMac G4 with a circular metal base and an adjustable arm, while the wall-mounted version will attach to a surface via a slim base housing speakers and microphones.

Neither configuration will include a battery, relying on continuous power via USB-C. Integrated sensors will detect user proximity, displaying information like temperature when idle and switching to a control interface when approached. The device may also support gesture control and use motion detection for home automation, such as turning on lights.

Internally, the hub is expected to be powered by an A18 chip or newer, with at least 8GB of RAM to support Apple Intelligence features. The homeOS will reportedly blend elements from tvOS, watchOS, and iOS, with an interface similar to watchOS and iPhone's StandBy mode when idle, showing the time and photos. Pre-installed applications are expected to include Safari, Apple Music, Photos, Calendar, Messages, Reminders, and FaceTime.
