Apple to phase out non-touch MacBook Pro models by 2027

Apple is reportedly planning to discontinue all non-touchscreen professional laptops by 2027, retaining only the entry-level 14-inch model.

1 November 2026

Apple intends to streamline its MacBook Pro lineup by phasing out non-touchscreen models in 2027, according to reports from Bloomberg. The strategic shift follows the recent introduction of the company's first touchscreen MacBook Pro models powered by M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.

While the company transitions toward touch-interface hardware, the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro will remain in the lineup without touchscreen functionality. This base model is expected to receive an upgrade to the M7 chip and a hardware redesign featuring a thinner chassis.

The current non-touch MacBook Pro starts at $1,999, positioning it as an alternative to the MacBook Air for users requiring more connectivity, higher performance, and advanced display technology. However, the $400 premium attached to the new touchscreen variants suggests that Apple aims to push its core professional user base toward touch-capable devices in the coming years.
