Apple TV+ has set a new record for its highest weekly viewership, according to recent reports. The surge in viewership is attributed to a combination of critical acclaim, highlighted by 29 Emmy Award wins, and the release of new, popular content.
The streaming service secured a significant number of Emmy Awards, with the drama "Widow's Bay" alone taking home 14 awards, including best comedy series. This critical success coincided with the debut of new seasons for "Slow Horses" and the highly anticipated "Ted Lasso," as well as the launch of the film "Mayday" starring Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh.
Following the Emmy Awards, "Widow's Bay" experienced a 280% week-over-week increase in viewership. Similarly, the series "Pluribus," which garnered six Emmy Awards, saw a 200% surge in viewing figures.
The film "Mayday" also proved to be a major draw, becoming the best-performing film premiere in Apple TV+ history within its first 18 days and topping streaming charts in the U.S.
This viewership milestone also coincides with a significant expansion of Apple TV+'s global reach. The service is now available in 170 countries, following its integration into iCloud+ subscription plans, which introduced the service to 59 new markets.
