Apple Updates Magic Keyboard Key Symbols
Apple has quietly updated the keycap symbols on the US English version of its Magic Keyboard. Text labels on several keys have been replaced with icons.
Apple has recently made a subtle update to the US English version of its Magic Keyboard, replacing text labels on several keycaps with dedicated symbols. The change affects frequently used keys, aiming for a more universal visual language.
The updated keys include Tab, Caps Lock, Shift, Return, and Delete, which are now represented by the symbols ⇥, ⇪, ⇧, ↵, and ⌫, respectively. This revision extends to the Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad, where keys such as Home, End, Page Down, and Page Up also adopt purely symbolic labels.
The update applies to the standard Magic Keyboard, the Magic Keyboard with Touch ID, and the Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Numeric Keypad, available in both white and black finishes. Notably, the Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad that lacks Touch ID has not yet received this symbol update.
This shift from text to symbols may require users to adapt to the new visual cues. While symbols can offer a concise representation, the transition could pose a learning curve for individuals accustomed to the previous text-based key descriptions.
