Apple has reintroduced a ceramic casing option with its latest Apple Watch Series 12. However, users without AppleCare+ coverage face substantial out-of-pocket expenses for repairs, with costs reaching unprecedented levels.
According to Apple's official website, the repair cost for 'other damage' on the ceramic version of the Apple Watch Series 12 is $599 in the U.S., equivalent to approximately 4,029 Chinese yuan. In China, the cost is 4,739 yuan. Battery replacement costs are set at $99 in the U.S. and 809 yuan in China.
These repair fees for accidental damage on the ceramic Apple Watch Series 12 are higher than those for the Apple Watch Ultra 4. The previous high-end model had an 'other damage' repair cost of $549 in the U.S. and 4,339 yuan in China without AppleCare+.
Opting for AppleCare+ significantly reduces these costs. Accidental damage for the ceramic Apple Watch Series 12 incurs a service fee of just $69 (528 yuan in China). Furthermore, battery service is provided free of charge when the battery's maximum capacity drops below 80%.
This pricing strategy appears designed to incentivize consumers to purchase AppleCare+, offering a more financially prudent option for protecting their Apple Watch investment against unexpected damage or battery degradation.
