Apple's 12-inch MacBook Officially Labeled Obsolete

Apple has added the 2017 model of its 12-inch MacBook to its official list of "obsolete products." This marks the discontinuation of the compact, fanless laptop line.

15 October 2026

Apple has officially classified the 2017 model of its 12-inch MacBook as "obsolete." This designation means the device is no longer supported by Apple's official production and service channels, though repairs might still be offered based on parts availability.

The 12-inch MacBook was first introduced in 2015, gaining attention for its thin, fanless design and compact footprint. While it was seen as a bold design statement for Apple's laptops, its performance limitations and single USB-C port restricted its widespread adoption.

Following the 2017 model, Apple did not release any further iterations of the 12-inch MacBook. Its classification as obsolete confirms the end of this specific product line.

Also added to the obsolete products list on the same date were the sixth-generation iPad (Wi-Fi and Cellular models) and various BeatsX Bluetooth earphone colors.
