Apple is reportedly planning to equip its 2026 Mac Mini with two new chip options: the M6 and M5 Pro. This move is expected to phase out lower storage tiers, with the next generation of the desktop computer beginning at 512GB of Solid State Drive (SSD) storage.
The upcoming Mac Mini models will serve as replacements for the current M4 and M4 Pro chip-equipped versions. The M6 chip is anticipated to be the standard offering, while the M5 Pro will feature in higher-end configurations. This strategy aligns with Apple's efforts to accelerate the transition to its M7 series chips, as the M6 lineup is expected to be limited to standard versions.
Industry analysis suggests the base model will likely feature the M6 chip and 16GB of unified memory. A more powerful variant is expected to come with the M5 Pro chip and 24GB of unified memory. In terms of connectivity, the M6 is predicted to support Thunderbolt 4, while the M5 Pro variant will include Thunderbolt 5. Both models may also gain support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.
