Apple's Camera-Equipped AirPods Pro Delayed to 2027
Apple's planned release of AirPods Pro with an integrated camera has been postponed to 2027 due to production challenges. The new earbuds are expected to use the camera for environmental recognition.

Apple's highly anticipated AirPods Pro earbuds, featuring an integrated camera, are now slated for a 2027 release, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman. The launch, previously rumored for 2026, has encountered production hurdles, pushing the timeline back.
The internal codename for this model is B790. The device is designed to utilize its camera for environmental awareness, not for capturing photos or videos. Equipped with a low-resolution sensor, it will identify objects in the user's surroundings to provide context for Siri and other AI-driven features. A subsequent model, B798, is also in development with enhanced sensors and AI capabilities.
Gurman indicated that Apple faced supply chain and software obstacles when attempting to start production this summer, following advanced testing by employees in spring 2026. The prospect of camera-equipped earbuds has already sparked privacy concerns, with some users raising worries about potential undisclosed recording.
Apple, which often emphasizes user privacy in its marketing, aims to avoid the privacy controversies that have surrounded similar wearable technologies. The company has not officially commented on the delayed release or the product's specific features.
