Apple's iOS 27 Includes Over 50 Hidden Features Focused on AI and Detail Refinement

Apple's iOS 27 operating system has been released, detailing 54 new features, with many being subtle or hidden improvements. The update eschews major visual overhauls in favor of enhancing performance and reliability, focusing on refining details and integrating artificial intelligence across various applications.

Significant additions have been made to the Photos app. A "Captured by Me" filter now allows users to view only photos and videos taken directly by the device, separating them from screenshots and downloaded media. The ability to save individual frames from videos as high-resolution photos with retained metadata has been introduced. Additionally, an "Identity Documents" collection automatically gathers passport and ID photos, streamlining access. Users can now manually add keywords to photos and videos for improved searchability and can apply star ratings for finer organization, aiding workflows like photo selection.

The Photos app also sees an improved "Clean Up" tool, powered by Apple Intelligence, which now offers a "High Quality" mode for more precise object removal and background regeneration, as demonstrated in an example involving vase removal. Siri and Spotlight have been unified into a single, system-wide floating search interface, accessible from any screen. This integration allows users to search or ask Siri questions without leaving their current app. Siri's capabilities have been significantly enhanced with improved on-screen awareness, enabling it to understand context and execute commands based on screen content, such as playing the third song in a playlist or adding event details to the calendar from a webpage. Conversations with Siri can now be continued via text input, and chat history is saved in a dedicated Siri app.
