Apple's next-generation iPad Mini 8 is expected to introduce significant upgrades, including IP-rated water resistance for the first time. According to technology publication MacRumors, the device is slated for a release in October 2026.

The new iPad Mini 8 will be powered by the A20 Pro chip, manufactured using TSMC's 2nm process. This chip is projected to offer substantial performance improvements over the current A17 Pro, with an estimated 1.5x increase in CPU performance and 2.5x in GPU performance. The A20 Pro will also feature dual 16-core Neural Engines, totaling 32 cores.

Further enhancements include an upgrade to 12GB of RAM from the current 8GB, and a transition from an LCD panel to an OLED display. The OLED screen is expected to provide richer colors, higher contrast, and deeper blacks. The device's bezels are also reportedly being narrowed to increase screen-to-body ratio.

Camera system changes include a horizontally oriented front camera, positioned on the right bezel when held in portrait mode. Wireless connectivity will be handled by Apple's custom N1 chip, supporting Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0. Cellular models will utilize Apple's in-house C1X or C2 modems. The speaker system has been redesigned, and the device will incorporate IP-rated water resistance.
