Apple's M6 Chip Family Reportedly Limited to a Single Base Model
Reports suggest Apple's M6 chip family may be its thinnest yet, featuring only a standard model and skipping integration into most Mac product lines.

Apple's upcoming M6 chip family is reportedly set to be the leanest in the company's lineup, featuring only a standard model and not extending to most Mac product lines, according to 9to5Mac.
The M6 series is described as a transitional generation, with Apple prioritizing development efforts on the subsequent M7 series. This focus means the M6 family is expected to consist solely of a base model, foregoing Pro and Max variants. However, the M6 standard chip is anticipated to offer performance improvements over its predecessor, the M5, with a 12-core GPU and increased memory bandwidth.
Several Mac product lines, including the Mac mini, iMac, and high-end MacBook Pro models, are expected to bypass the M6 chip altogether and transition directly to the M7 series. Devices likely to feature the M6 chip include a new MacBook Air, slated for an early 2027 release, and potentially a new iPad Pro in spring 2027.
The limited scope of the M6 rollout suggests Apple views it as an intermediate step before the more powerful M7 chips and their corresponding devices become available.
