Apple saw a significant 13% year-over-year increase in Mac shipments during the second quarter of 2026, according to market research firm CounterPoint Research. The company's strong performance was largely attributed to the successful market reception of its MacBook Neo laptops.
The growth for Apple contrasts with the broader global PC market, which experienced a 4% decline in shipments during the same quarter, totaling 65 million units. This downturn ended a period of growth that had persisted since the first quarter of 2025.
Analysts point to a mixed environment in the PC market. Demand drivers include the ongoing migration from Windows 10 to Windows 11 and the emergence of AI PCs. However, rising component costs, particularly for memory, are limiting manufacturers' production plans and dampening consumer demand.
Among the top PC vendors, Lenovo maintained its market leadership with a 25.6% share, despite a 2% dip in shipments. HP experienced the largest decline among the top three, with shipments down 8%, while Dell's sales decreased by 6%. Apple's notable growth helped it capture a larger share of the market.
Looking ahead, analysts expect demand in price-sensitive entry-level and consumer segments to contract further. The commercial sector, however, is projected to maintain relatively stable demand, fueled by ongoing refresh cycles driven by Windows update support expirations.
