Apple's New Siri AI and iOS 27 Target High-End Devices

Apple has released its rebuilt Siri AI and iOS 27 operating system, effective September 14, 2026. The new artificial intelligence features are primarily directed towards the company's higher-priced hardware models, including the iPhone Duo, iPhone 18 Pro, and Pro Max. This premium-focused strategy marks a departure from Apple's previous approach of offering options across all market segments.

Under the leadership of new CEO John Ternus, Apple appears to be favoring higher price points. This is partly attributed to global supply chain issues affecting memory and storage chips, suggesting that Apple had limited options but to cater to the high-end market this year. Consequently, consumers must consider whether the new AI capabilities justify the cost, even with top-tier hardware.

Apple's success hinges on several factors. Firstly, Siri AI's ability to adapt to diverse speech patterns and dialects across different markets, particularly in linguistically rich regions like India. Secondly, its performance on older iPhone models, which may face hardware limitations. The new Apple Intelligence and Siri AI features require at least an iPhone 15 Pro or later, or iPads with an M1 chip or newer. The most advanced on-device models, supporting enhanced capabilities, necessitate an iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro or later, or iPads with an M4 chip and at least 12GB of memory. This creates a distinct division between the latest and older devices, potentially leading to a fragmented user experience.
