Applied Materials Commits $5 Billion to India's Semiconductor Sector
US-based Applied Materials has announced a $5 billion investment commitment to accelerate India's semiconductor ecosystem. The funds will support research, development, and talent growth over the next decade.

Applied Materials, a US-based semiconductor equipment and materials company, has committed $5 billion (approximately ₹47,980.8 crore) to bolster India's semiconductor industry as part of its Applied Materials India Vision 2035.
The announcement was made by Prabhu Raja, president of the semiconductor products group, at SEMICON India 2026 in New Delhi. The investment aims to integrate India's semiconductor ecosystem into the global value chain over the next decade.
The initiative will focus on three pillars: deepening research and development (R&D) in India, accelerating the semiconductor ecosystem, and fostering talent. Raja highlighted plans for a new 140-acre advanced semiconductor research park designed to bring together cleanroom capabilities and collaborative R&D efforts.
Applied Materials intends to increase its India-based supply chain capacity tenfold by 2035, creating opportunities for local suppliers and attracting international companies. This move aligns with India's broader 'Semicon 2.0' initiative, which aims to develop the country's capabilities across chip design, manufacturing, and talent development within the semiconductor sector.
