Appraisal Institute Offers Scholarship for Veterans Entering Real Estate Appraisal
The Appraisal Institute has opened its Next Mission Scholarship program, offering a $1,000 tuition award to help veterans pursue careers in real estate appraisal.

The Appraisal Institute, a professional association for real estate appraisers, has launched its Next Mission Scholarship program. This initiative provides a $1,000 tuition award to assist veterans transitioning from military service into careers in real estate appraisal, valuation, and related fields. The program aims to facilitate this career change by leveraging skills acquired during military service.
Part of the Appraisal Institute's Veterans Initiative Program, the scholarship recognizes that veterans possess valuable skills crucial for appraisal work. These include leadership, discipline, attention to detail, problem-solving, and analytical thinking. "Veterans have spent their service reading terrain, weighing risk, and making decisions that hold up under scrutiny," stated Jim Slawnikowski, acting CEO of the Appraisal Institute.
Appraisers evaluate properties, markets, and economic conditions to develop independent opinions of value. This profession demands careful analysis, precision, sound judgment, and the ability to manage complex information – skills commonly honed by veterans in various military roles. The initiative underscores the value these transferable skills bring to the appraisal sector.
Beyond financial assistance, the program offers access to educational and career resources, including information on courses and professional development opportunities. Applications must be completed online by October 30, 2026. Scholarship award recipients are scheduled to be notified on November 16, 2026.
