Arclin Introduces Kevlar® EXO™ XP E480 Material for Body Armor
Arclin has launched Kevlar® EXO™ XP E480, a new soft armor material combining Kevlar® XP technology with Kevlar® EXO™ fiber. The material enables next-generation body armor designs with enhanced comfort and mobility.

Alpharetta, Georgia – Materials science company Arclin has introduced Kevlar® EXO™ XP E480, the latest addition to its personal protection portfolio. This new material merges the ballistic and trauma-reduction performance of Kevlar® XP technology with the advanced capabilities of Kevlar® EXO™ fiber.
The development aims to allow body armor manufacturers to produce significantly lighter weight body armor that meets NIJ Level IIIA/HG2 protection standards. The goal is to enhance wearer comfort, mobility, and operational effectiveness in demanding conditions.
Joe Hovanec, Arclin's Vice President of Kevlar® EXO™, stated that the new material can enable armor that is up to 25% lighter and provides up to 40% greater comfort compared to previous materials like XP K520. This is intended to reduce wearer fatigue while maintaining reliable protection.
Engineered for challenging field conditions, Kevlar® EXO™ XP E480 is designed to offer high stopping power, excellent bullet-flattening performance, and durability in a lighter construction. Its fiber architecture also aims to reduce layer counts and stitching, potentially streamlining armor design and manufacturing.
