Manufacturer Arcturus has released the Vision Camera passthrough module for Valve Corporation's Steam Frame VR headset. The new module significantly enhances passthrough image quality and introduces color.
The Vision Camera module is priced at $150 and attaches to the underside of the Steam Frame's nose bridge. Weighing only 10 grams, it offers a plug-and-play experience, automatically activating without requiring a headset restart. This module replaces the headset's native passthrough, providing a notable improvement in resolution and color fidelity.
According to initial reviews, the Vision Camera brings the Steam Frame's passthrough capabilities closer to the level of devices like the Meta Quest 3. While the original Steam Frame camera struggled to identify details such as text on a phone screen, the Vision Camera allows users to clearly read content in passthrough mode.
Beyond improved passthrough, the Vision Camera also supports the recording of high-quality spatial video at up to 2464x2464 resolution and 60 frames per second. A companion Sync application for Windows and Mac (with Linux support planned) allows users to transfer recorded videos to their computers and convert them for playback on other VR headsets.
