ARD ZDF Deutschlandradio Beitragsservice Warns of Phishing Emails

The ARD ZDF Deutschlandradio Beitragsservice has issued a warning regarding fraudulent emails circulating that misuse the organization's name. These emails, often titled "Rückerstattungsbenachrichtigung" (Reimbursement Notification), falsely claim recipients are due a refund for overpaid broadcasting fees.

These phishing messages, typically offering a refund of €36.72, instruct recipients to click a link to claim the money. The linked page then prompts users to enter sensitive personal data, including name, address, phone number, and crucially, credit card details with the CVV code. The Beitragsservice emphasizes that they never send such emails or request financial information in this manner.

Beitragsservice highlights several discrepancies to help identify these fakes. Unlike authentic communications, the fraudulent emails often use impersonal greetings like "Sehr geehrter Kunde" (Dear Customer) and lack specific reference or contribution numbers. They also refer to "Rundfunkgebühren" (broadcasting fees) instead of the current term "Rundfunkbeitrag" (broadcasting contribution) used since 2013, and may display an outdated ARD logo.

Furthermore, the organization clarifies that they do not process reimbursements via credit card or request credit card details via email. Recipients are strongly advised to delete these malicious emails immediately and avoid clicking any links or providing any personal information.
