ARD ZDF Deutschlandradio reminds about 2026 broadcasting fee obligations
The broadcasting fee service for ARD, ZDF, and Deutschlandradio informs about changes in payment procedures and the importance of individual responsibility for fee payers starting in 2026.

The broadcasting fee service for ARD, ZDF, and Deutschlandradio is reminding fee payers of their responsibilities heading into 2026. The service continues its transition away from regular paper invoices ('Rechnungen') towards a single annual payment notice for those who pay via bank transfer.
Individuals paying by bank transfer or standing order will receive one notification listing all payment dates for the year, which are valid for subsequent years as well. These dates must be adhered to without further reminders. The service recommends SEPA direct debit for timely and automatic payments.
Exemptions from the broadcasting fee, such as for recipients of certain social benefits, are no longer automatic. An application and supporting documentation are required. Fee payers are also responsible for tracking their exemption periods and reapplying before expiration to avoid re-establishing their contribution obligation.
If the conditions for an exemption cease to apply prematurely, for example, due to starting employment, this must be reported to the fee service via an online form. Fee payers are urged to be proactive in managing their accounts to ensure compliance throughout 2026.
