Argus launches ship-to-ship Gulf of Oman prices for Abu Dhabi crude

Global energy and commodity price reporting agency Argus has begun reporting assessed prices for Abu Dhabi crude oil exports loading in the Gulf of Oman. The new assessments cover ship-to-ship (STS) transactions taking place outside the Strait of Hormuz.

This new pricing mechanism aims to bring greater transparency to the trading of Abu Dhabi crude, particularly for transactions that bypass the traditional shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz. The price assessments became available starting August 12, 2026.

According to Argus, this initiative will provide the market with new, independent valuations for Abu Dhabi crude, enabling companies to make more informed trading and supply chain decisions.

The prices are reported on a ship-to-ship basis, reflecting trading practices where oil is transferred from larger tankers to smaller vessels offshore, away from fixed port infrastructure.

Argus Media is a global provider of price assessments for the energy and commodities markets, offering analysis and data for global markets.
