Arm's AI accelerator to boost mobile game graphics
Arm has released a new AI-accelerated graphics processor for mobile devices. The technology is debuting in China with Xiaomi's new foldable phone.

Arm has introduced a new AI-accelerated graphics processor (GPU) poised to significantly enhance the visual quality of mobile games. Developed over five years, this technology integrates artificial intelligence capabilities directly into Arm's GPU, promising a substantial upgrade for mobile gaming experiences.
The processor, named Mali G2-Ultra NX, will initially launch in mainland China. It will be featured in Xiaomi's new 18 Fold foldable smartphone, utilizing a custom Xring O3 chip that incorporates Arm's latest advancements. This approach mirrors strategies previously employed in PC graphics processing, such as those developed by Nvidia.
Arm aims to bring PC-level graphics technologies to smartphones, including higher resolutions and more sophisticated lighting effects, without a commensurate increase in power consumption. This could lead to a reduction in graphical compromises often seen in mobile games, such as aliasing or jagged edges.
