Artist Marianne Urth sails aboard Catana catamaran

Artist Marianne Urth is leveraging the Catana Ocean Class 50 catamaran as a vessel for both inspiration and maritime exploration. Urth's artistic practice centers on abstract and colorful interpretations of the sea, with a particular focus on storms and waves.

Urth has navigated the OC 50 AMALIE over 7,000 nautical miles, from the Mediterranean to Australia and the South Pacific. She describes the vessel as safe, comfortable for a small crew, and fast, allowing her to chart courses that avoid adverse weather.

"I am fascinated by bad weather, and it is the storms and large waves that inspire my art," Urth stated. "I am captivated by the ocean, the waves, and the wind, but also slightly afraid of how quickly these elements can change."

Urth's paintings reflect her experiences of the sea's raw power and ever-changing nature. Elements like colored sails and inclined masts suggest the sea state and dynamic conditions. She finds that sailing and exploring new locations are particularly rewarding, as the success of the experience hinges on the people aboard, constantly pushing individuals beyond their comfort zones.

Further examples of Urth's work can be found on her Instagram, Marianne.urth.art, and her website, www.marianneurthart.com. The sailing adventures of AMALIE are documented on Facebook at sailing.amalie.
