Arturia expands Freak synthesizer line with 49-key model
Arturia has introduced the MiniFreak 49, a new digital synthesizer featuring a full-sized keybed to replace previous compact keyboard layouts.

Arturia has updated its digital synthesizer lineup with the release of the MiniFreak 49. The instrument maintains the sound engine of its predecessor while shifting toward a more traditional hardware configuration for performance.
The primary hardware change is the integration of 49 full-sized, semi-weighted keys, a departure from the 37-key minikey and 25-key touchplate designs found on earlier instruments in the series. Additionally, the manufacturer has replaced touch-sensitive ribbons with standard aluminum pitch and modulation wheels.
Despite the physical revisions aimed at enhancing usability, the unit retains mono aftertouch, opting against polyphonic aftertouch found in some high-end competitors. This release indicates Arturia’s strategy to bridge the gap between portable digital synthesis and studio-grade physical ergonomics.
