Arvinas and Pfizer report Phase 3 trial results for breast cancer treatment vepdegestrant

Arvinas and Pfizer have announced top-line results from the Phase 3 VERITAC-2 clinical trial, evaluating the investigational drug vepdegestrant in adults with metastatic ER+/HER2- breast cancer. The trial focused on patients who had previously undergone endocrine therapy and CDK4/6 inhibitor treatment.

The study met its primary endpoint among patients with estrogen receptor 1 (ESR1) mutations, demonstrating a statistically significant improvement in progression-free survival compared to the standard-of-care, fulvestrant. However, the trial did not reach statistical significance regarding progression-free survival within the broader intent-to-treat population.

Vepdegestrant belongs to a class of drugs known as PROTACs, which are designed to target and degrade specific proteins within cancer cells. According to the companies, the treatment was generally well-tolerated with a safety profile consistent with earlier studies. The firms intend to present the full dataset at an upcoming medical conference and plan to discuss the findings with regulatory authorities.
