Asador Etxebarri named top restaurant in 2026 global rankings
The Spanish restaurant Asador Etxebarri took the top spot in the 2026 edition of The 50 Best Restaurants list announced in Lima.
Asador Etxebarri, located in Atxondo, Spain, has been named the world's best restaurant in the 2026 rankings released by The 50 Best organization. The establishment, led by chef-owner Victor Arguinzoniz, is recognized for its specialized approach to wood-fired cooking, which focuses on a 14-course menu of minimally processed ingredients.
The global list, unveiled at the Teatro Municipal in Lima, Peru, features restaurants across 28 territories. Gaggan in Bangkok secured the second spot, followed by Alchemist in Copenhagen. The ranking also highlighted regional leaders, including Quintonil in Mexico City for Latin America and Atomix in New York for North America.
The 2026 awards saw 11 new entries join the top 50 list. Among the individual honors, Jessica Rosval was named Best Female Chef, while El Bulli’s Ferran Adrià received the Icon Award. The awards program, sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna, continues to track trends in the fine-dining sector.
