Ascletis reports Phase II results for oral diabetes candidate ASC30

Ascletis has released findings from its U.S.-based Phase II study evaluating ASC30, an oral small molecule GLP-1 receptor agonist. The study met its primary endpoints, demonstrating that patients treated with the drug experienced placebo-adjusted reductions in HbA1c levels of 1.6% to 1.7% over a 12-week period.

The trial tested three dosage levels—40 mg, 60 mg, and 80 mg—across the participant cohort. In addition to blood glucose regulation, the study observed placebo-adjusted weight reduction ranging from 3.8% to 4.4% among the treatment groups compared to baseline metrics.

The development of oral GLP-1 candidates represents a significant focus in the pharmaceutical industry as firms seek alternatives to injectable treatments for metabolic conditions. Ascletis indicated that it will proceed with data analysis to determine the regulatory pathway for ASC30 moving forward.
