Asia-Pacific Sustainable Technology Symposium Convenes in Shanghai for Low-Altitude Economy Cooperation

The 2026 Asia-Pacific Symposium for Strategic Innovation in Sustainable Technology (ASSIST), an APEC-funded initiative, convened in Shanghai on July 22, 2026. Held alongside the International Low-Altitude Economy Expo, the event gathered government, industry, and research representatives from various APEC economies to discuss the development of the low-altitude sector.

The symposium aimed to promote practical cooperation and deepen industrial coordination across the Asia-Pacific region concerning the low-altitude economy. Key aspects included the unveiling of award-winning innovation cases from the previous year and the opening of a thematic exhibition zone focused on the sector's future.

Discussions centered on policy coordination, technological advancements, and building industrial ecosystems to foster growth and collaboration. An initiative was launched calling for APEC economies to jointly advance five key priorities, including developing a professional think tank and advancing green technological innovation. Twenty outstanding cases in low-altitude economy innovation were also announced.

The initiative seeks to address challenges in airspace governance and safety standards within the nascent low-altitude economy. By aligning policies, recognizing standards, and sharing application scenarios, participating economies aim to build a cooperative community and contribute solutions to global low-altitude economy governance and industrial advancement.
