ASML, a critical player in the global semiconductor supply chain, is planning to increase the prices of its chip manufacturing equipment. According to reports from The Information, the company has notified some of its clients about a 10 percent price hike on its DUV lithography machines.

ASML's production capacity of these advanced systems significantly influences the global increase in front-end semiconductor manufacturing capacity. While the company has projected a continuous annual production growth of 30% for its Low NA EUV and DUV lithography equipment over the next two years, this volume may not be sufficient to meet the strong and growing demand from the artificial intelligence sector.

During a recent earnings call, ASML's Chief Financial Officer Roger Dassen stated that improvements in production efficiency for Low NA tools "certainly provide quite strong room for potential future price increases." This suggests a strategic approach to capitalize on market conditions and technological leadership.

The reported price increase plans have allegedly caused concern and dissatisfaction among major chip manufacturers. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), a key customer of ASML, is said to have expressed its displeasure with the proposed price adjustments.

ASML's decision to raise prices reflects the tight supply and rising global demand for advanced semiconductors, particularly for AI applications. These potential price adjustments could impact investment decisions and production costs for chip manufacturers worldwide.
