ASPCA Awards Inaugural Veterinary Scholarships to 41 Students Focused on Animal Welfare
The ASPCA has granted 41 scholarships to veterinary and veterinary technician students who are committed to careers in animal welfare, marking the program's first recipients.
New York – The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) has announced the 41 students selected as the inaugural recipients of the ASPCA Veterinary Scholarship Program. This new initiative aims to bolster the veterinary workforce in shelters and non-profit settings and improve access to animal healthcare.
The scholarship program provides financial assistance, mentorship, and professional development. Veterinary students can receive up to $100,000, while veterinary technician students are eligible for up to $20,000. Upon graduation, scholars are expected to dedicate a minimum of three years to roles focused on animal welfare, including shelter medicine, community veterinary care, and high-volume spay-neuter programs.
ASPCA President and CEO Matt Bershadker highlighted the program's role in nurturing future animal care professionals. "This marks the beginning of a partnership between the ASPCA and a remarkable group of future veterinary professionals whose work will shape the future of animal welfare," Bershadker stated. The program seeks to address the shortage of veterinarians in the animal welfare sector and reduce financial barriers for aspiring professionals.
The 41 scholars were chosen from 28 institutions across the U.S. and St. Kitts. They are expected to strengthen animal welfare efforts within non-profit and mission-driven organizations nationwide, fostering a new generation of veterinary leaders dedicated to improving animal lives.
