ASSA ABLOY Implements Smart Factory Initiatives in Switzerland

Locking solutions provider ASSA ABLOY is implementing its smart factory strategy across its three production facilities in Switzerland. The initiative aims to create a more integrated and automated production environment.

The company defines a smart factory as an intelligent and interconnected production setting where systems autonomously coordinate and exchange information throughout the manufacturing process. This approach seeks to improve production transparency and efficiency, enabling real-time monitoring and control.

The Richterswil facility, which produces KESO locking systems, is the most advanced in this transition. Having focused on automation and operational excellence for some time, the site commissioned its first fully automated production line in 2015, following initial considerations starting in 2013.

Progress is also being made at the MSL plant in Kleinlützel and the Planet facility in Tagelswangen. MSL has implemented several collaborative robots and automated systems, including an automated high-bay warehouse integrated with automated guided vehicles (AGVs). The Tagelswangen facility is automating its packaging and stamping processes.

ASSA ABLOY continues to invest in automation and data analytics to optimize its manufacturing capabilities and supply chain.
