ASSA ABLOY launches first electronic key with mobile network connection

Locking solutions provider ASSA ABLOY has launched the eCLIQ FLASH key, which it states is the world's first electronic key with an integrated mobile network connection. The new key enables access rights to be updated directly via the mobile network, utilizing NB-IoT and LTE-M technologies.

Traditionally, updating access rights in electronic locking systems has required either a separate update station or a smartphone as an interface. ASSA ABLOY states that the eCLIQ FLASH key eliminates this need by retrieving new access rights directly from the cloud via the CLIQ® Web Manager software with a single button press. This is particularly beneficial for large-scale and geographically dispersed facilities, such as industrial sites or energy company infrastructure.

The solution offers significant time and cost savings by reducing the need to visit separate update points. The system also aims to improve security and efficiency by removing reliance on smartphones or separate applications, which can introduce technical and organizational challenges. ASSA ABLOY highlights that the key's data transmission is end-to-end encrypted using AES-128.

ASSA ABLOY is also introducing an updated eCLIQ SPARK® key, which generates its own power and requires no batteries or accumulators. Both the new FLASH® and the updated SPARK® keys are expected to be available through retail channels in 2026. Both new key models are compatible with ASSA ABLOY's existing eCLIQ lock cylinders.
