AstaReal AB introduces stable encapsulated astaxanthin ingredient

AstaReal AB is expanding its product portfolio with the release of AstaReal EB15, an encapsulated version of astaxanthin formulated to withstand oxygen exposure. The product is specifically designed for use in HPMC and gelatin two-piece capsules, addressing long-standing stability challenges associated with the ingredient.

Astaxanthin is naturally sensitive to oxidation, a factor that typically limits its use in specific delivery formats. According to Pernilla Berg, Head of R&D at AstaReal AB, the new encapsulation process allows the ingredient to remain stable even when subjected to the higher oxygen levels present in certain capsule types.

The launch targets a broader application market, moving beyond traditional softgels. By stabilizing the active compound, the company intends to facilitate the inclusion of astaxanthin in a wider variety of dry supplement formats.
