Pharmaceutical companies AstraZeneca and Eli Lilly have extended their immuno-oncology research collaboration, focusing on the development of novel combination therapies for solid tumors.

Under the expanded agreement, the companies will evaluate the safety and efficacy of several new combinations utilizing their complementary drug portfolios. Lilly will lead the execution of the studies, with both companies contributing resources. Further details on the specific tumor types to be studied and financial terms have not been disclosed.

AstraZeneca's anti-PD-L1 immune checkpoint inhibitor, durvalumab, will be combined with Lilly's immune-targeting agents. These include galunisertib, a TGF-beta kinase inhibitor, and a CXCR4 peptide antagonist. Additionally, an anti-CSF-1R monoclonal antibody will be assessed in combination with AstraZeneca's anti-CTLA-4 monoclonal antibody, tremelimumab.

The companies will also explore other combinations targeting tumor drivers and resistance mechanisms. This includes combining Lilly's abemaciclib with AstraZeneca's Faslodex, and Lilly's CYRAMZA® and necitumumab with AstraZeneca's investigational EGFR inhibitor AZD9291.
