Pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca has announced the composition of its judging panel for the 2023 R&D Postdoctoral Challenge. The panel features several distinguished individuals from the fields of pharmaceutical research and development, genetics, and life sciences policy.
Representing AstraZeneca are Dr. Sharon Barr, Executive Vice-President, BioPharmaceuticals R&D, and Professor Sir Menelas Pangalos, Executive Vice-President, BioPharmaceuticals R&D, who is retiring in 2024. Barr oversees discovery through late-stage development, while Pangalos has been instrumental in transforming the company's R&D productivity and fostering external collaborations.
Also joining the panel is Professor David Goldstein, CEO and Co-founder of Actio Biosciences. A human geneticist specializing in precision medicine, Goldstein brings extensive experience from both academia and industry, including prior advisory roles with AstraZeneca on genomics.
Dr. Jenni Nordborg, Director of International Affairs at Lif โ the Swedish association for research-based pharmaceutical companies โ provides a policy perspective. She has a deep understanding of life sciences innovation and strategy at national and international levels, having previously served as Sweden's National Life Sciences Coordinator.
This diverse panel will evaluate submissions from postdoctoral researchers, aiming to identify promising new scientific breakthroughs and potential drug development candidates.
