AstraZeneca announced a new strategic drug discovery collaboration and licensing agreement with insitro, a company specializing in artificial intelligence for therapeutics. The partnership aims to identify novel drug targets and advance the design of new therapies for patients suffering from metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) and cardiomyopathies.

The collaboration will leverage insitro's Virtual Human™ AI platform, which integrates large-scale human and cellular data with AI-driven target identification and medicine design. This approach is intended to uncover the underlying biological and genetic drivers of these complex diseases.

AstraZeneca will contribute its expertise in clinical development and regulatory affairs to advance potential medicines identified through the collaboration. The company will have exclusive worldwide rights to develop selected programs emerging from the partnership.

Insitro will receive an upfront payment of $40 million and is eligible for up to approximately $1.46 billion in potential development and commercial milestones, plus potential single-digit royalties. The partnership seeks to accelerate the discovery and development of novel medicines for conditions with significant unmet medical need.
