AstraZeneca Presents New Data on Respiratory Syncytial Virus Prevention
AstraZeneca will present new data on its Beyfortus and Synagis products for preventing Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). The presentations will take place at the ReSViNET Conference in Lisbon in February 2023.
AstraZeneca is set to present new data for its Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) products, Beyfortus (nirsevimab) and Synagis (palivizumab), at the ReSViNET Conference in Lisbon in February 2023. The company will showcase five abstracts and posters, reinforcing its commitment to developing methods for protecting infants against RSV.
RSV is a common and highly contagious virus that causes respiratory infections in infants, including bronchiolitis and pneumonia. It is a leading cause of infant hospitalizations, and the virus saw a surge among infants this past winter.
The company will present safety and efficacy findings from the full cohort of the Phase III MELODY clinical trial investigating Beyfortus. The data demonstrate consistent efficacy of approximately 70-80% against medically attended RSV lower respiratory tract infections, including hospitalizations. For Synagis, a new cost-effectiveness analysis focused on Canadian premature infants will be presented.
AstraZeneca is also collaborating with the ReSViNET Foundation to launch the first global RSV surveillance dashboard in March 2023. This is expected to facilitate global tracking of RSV seasonality and assist clinicians in protecting infants and preventing increases in hospitalizations.
