AstraZeneca's Tezspire Shows Significant Results in Nasal Polyp Trial
AstraZeneca and Amgen's Tezspire demonstrated significant efficacy in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps, reducing nasal congestion, polyp size, and surgical need.
AstraZeneca and Amgen have announced positive results from the Phase III WAYPOINT trial of Tezspire (tezepelumab). The trial investigated the drug's effectiveness in patients suffering from chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP).
Tezspire significantly reduced nasal polyp severity and nasal congestion after 52 weeks of treatment compared to placebo. Improvements were observed as early as week four and week two, respectively, and were sustained throughout the study period. Importantly, the treatment also substantially decreased the need for future nasal polyp surgeries and systemic corticosteroid use.
The study findings were published in the New England Journal of Medicine and presented as a late-breaking oral presentation at the AAAAI/WAO 2025 Joint Congress. The data highlighted statistically significant and clinically meaningful improvements across key secondary outcomes compared to placebo.
Dr. Joseph Han, a principal investigator in the trial, stated that Tezspire has the potential to greatly reduce the burden of nasal polyps for patients by nearly eliminating the need for future surgery and corticosteroid use.
