ASUS monitor stops bullet during stray gunfire incident

A gamer avoided injury after a stray bullet penetrated a wall and became lodged in an ASUS TUF monitor.

3 November 2026

A Reddit user reported an incident in which a stray bullet entered their home, passing through an exterior wall and interior drywall before striking an ASUS TUF VG258QM gaming monitor. The incident occurred while the user was seated at their desk, effectively positioning the hardware as a barrier between the projectile and the user.

While the monitor sustained significant structural damage to its rear casing, the screen itself was not breached. The hardware appears to have successfully absorbed the kinetic energy of the projectile, preventing potential injury to the individual.

ASUS representatives responded to the user's report, noting that while such damage typically falls outside the scope of standard warranty coverage due to being categorized as accidental or force majeure, the company is reviewing the case individually to determine if assistance can be provided.
