ASUS XG Core performance capped by 75W power limit
The ASUS XG Core external graphics dock operates at a 75W limit, forcing a significant performance reduction in its integrated AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT LP GPU.
ASUS has unveiled the XG Core external graphics unit, featuring an integrated AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT LP GPU. To maintain a 75W power profile, the company has significantly constrained the operational capabilities of the graphics card, which typically requires 140W under standard conditions.
The hardware limitations result in reduced clock speeds. Official data indicates that even in its performance-oriented mode, the GPU operates at a peak frequency of 1620 MHz. By comparison, the standard version of the Radeon RX 9060 XT LP is rated for 3040 MHz. This reduction impacts throughput, with INT4 sparse compute performance dropping to 406.3 TOPS from the standard 800 TOPS.
Equipped with USB4, HDMI 2.1, and DisplayPort connectivity, the XG Core represents a trade-off between power efficiency and raw computational power. This configuration highlights the thermal and energy limitations inherent in compact external GPU solutions.
