Atari to Relaunch Early 8-Bit Home Computer 800XL

Atari announced it is relaunching the 800XL, an 8-bit personal computer that first debuted 43 years ago. The revival is being developed in collaboration with game developer and publisher Plaion.

The 800XL is presented as a faithful recreation of the original all-in-one PC. While many retro enthusiasts may primarily use it for gaming, the new model retains the original's built-in mechanical keyboard. This feature is intended to allow users to code their own games and applications using Atari BASIC.

The 800XL is available for preorder at $219.99, with shipping scheduled to begin in April 2027. Atari has previously revived other classic consoles, such as the 2600.
