Athlete completes monkey bar crossing at Bloukrans Bridge

Professional obstacle course racer Thomas van Tonder completed a 280-meter monkey bar crossing suspended 216 meters above the Bloukrans River in South Africa. The event, staged at the site of one of the world's highest commercial bridge bungees, required van Tonder to traverse the length of the structure using only his upper body strength.

The crossing took 47 minutes and 37 seconds to complete. Van Tonder, a champion in the obstacle course racing circuit, utilized a customized rig attached to the bridge to perform the feat, which is classified as an exhibition of physical endurance rather than a competitive sporting event.

While the Bloukrans Bridge is primarily a transit route and a site for adventure tourism, such activations are increasingly common for sponsors like Red Bull to generate promotional content. The crossing marks a notable instance of high-altitude athletic performance within the local adventure sports scene.
