Atlantic City Casinos Raise $315,000 for Suicide Prevention

Atlantic City's casinos collectively raised $315,000 at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's (AFSP) 7th Annual Out of the Darkness Community Walk held on September 20. Employees from all casino properties participated in the boardwalk event, demonstrating the industry's shared commitment to supporting suicide prevention, education, and mental health awareness within the local community.

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City led the initiative, with its team members initiating the engagement. This marks the seventh year the industry has united for the cause. Michael Sampson, General Manager at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City, emphasized the importance of supporting access to resources. "Supporting access to lifesaving resources and services helps build stronger, safer communities and ensures our neighbors have the support they need when they need it most," Sampson stated.

Since 2018, Hard Rock Atlantic City has been instrumental in growing the AFSP Out of the Darkness Walk into the largest of its kind in New Jersey, helping to raise crucial funds and awareness. George Goldhoff, president of the Casino Association of New Jersey (CANJ), highlighted the strong participation from all Atlantic City casinos, underscoring the industry's dedication to the cause.

Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States, with mental health challenges being a significant concern, particularly among young people. The AFSP, established in 1987, aims to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide through research, education, and advocacy.
