Atlantic Quantum Joins Google Quantum AI

Atlantic Quantum, a company emerging from research at Chalmers University of Technology and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), is set to join Google Quantum AI. Established in 2022, the company's mission has been to develop a quantum computer capable of economically scaling to address real-world challenges.

"We now have the opportunity to accelerate progress alongside Google Quantum AI’s industry-leading superconducting qubit hardware," stated Atlantic Quantum CEO Bharath Kannan. This move signifies a consolidation of expertise in the burgeoning field of quantum computing.

The company's origins lie in collaborative research at Chalmers' Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience and the Wallenberg Centre for Quantum Technology (WACQT), in conjunction with MIT's Engineering Quantum Systems Group. Atlantic Quantum has focused on creating highly integrated quantum computing hardware, featuring a modular chip stack that combines qubits and superconducting control electronics within the cold stage.

Google Quantum AI aims to leverage Atlantic Quantum's technology and team to enhance its own superconducting qubit hardware. This integration is expected to expedite Google's roadmap towards developing large-scale, error-corrected quantum computers and their practical applications.
