AtlantiCare First in Region to Offer Robotic Nipple-Sparing Mastectomy
AtlantiCare has become the first healthcare system in its tri-state region to offer robotic nipple-sparing mastectomy (RNSM) using the da Vinci Single Port surgical system. This advancement aims to improve breast cancer treatment and patient experience.

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. – AtlantiCare is now the first healthcare system in the tri-state region to provide robotic nipple-sparing mastectomy (RNSM) employing the da Vinci Single Port (SP) surgical system. This procedure marks an advancement in breast cancer surgery, offering a more minimally invasive option for patients.
The da Vinci SP system allows for a single, smaller incision and may offer benefits such as reduced risk of complications affecting skin or nipple blood flow, and potential preservation of nipple sensation. The goal is to support a more natural appearance post-reconstruction, a significant factor for many patients undergoing the procedure.
Dr. Kay Yoon-Flannery, Chief of Women's Oncology at AtlantiCare Cancer Care Institute, will perform the procedures at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center. Dr. Yoon-Flannery has undergone specialized international training in this robotic technique.
AtlantiCare's comprehensive cancer program integrates this new technology with a multidisciplinary team approach. The healthcare system also collaborates with the Cleveland Clinic Cancer Institute, providing patients access to advanced research and expertise.
