Atlassian CEO: AI is increasing the use of our tools

Atlassian CEO Mike Cannon-Brookes believes that artificial intelligence (AI) is not threatening the market for software tools, such as his company's products Jira and Trello, but rather increasing their relevance and usage.

In an interview, Cannon-Brookes explained that Atlassian's core concept – providing a unified platform for business collaboration and work management – is even more crucial in the age of AI. He dismissed the "SaaSpocalypse" theory, which suggests AI could replace such tools or build them itself.

"AI can help examine and understand complex systems, but it doesn't eliminate the need for effective tools to manage processes and inter-team communication," Cannon-Brookes said. He noted that the integration of AI into Atlassian's products has actually increased their usage, as it enables deeper analysis and better decision-making.

While Atlassian, like many tech companies, has undertaken layoffs this year to shift its skill mix, Cannon-Brookes emphasized that this is not directly related to the AI threat. Instead, he views AI as a tool that complements human capabilities and enhances productivity in companies heavily reliant on technology.
