atNorth to Discuss Biodiversity Integration in Digital Infrastructure at COP17
Nordic data center operator atNorth will participate in the UN COP17 convention in October 2026 to discuss the integration of biodiversity considerations into digital infrastructure development.
Nordic data center operator atNorth announced its participation in the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17) taking place in Yerevan, Armenia, in October 2026. The company will share practical experiences and lessons learned from integrating biodiversity considerations into its development strategy.
The conference aims to assess progress towards the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework's 2030 targets under the theme 'Taking Action for Nature.' As global digitalization accelerates, the demand for data center capacity grows. Attention is expanding beyond energy and carbon to encompass broader environmental impacts of development, including biodiversity.
atNorth will present its work on restoration and biodiversity as part of its 'Data Center Blueprint for the future.' Discussions will cover how infrastructure providers can integrate nature considerations into planning, construction, and operations. Examples include biodiversity monitoring programs, conservation and replanting initiatives, species support projects, and heat reuse partnerships contributing to circular resource use.
"The conversation around sustainable digital infrastructure has traditionally focused on carbon, energy, and efficiency. While these remain critical priorities, biodiversity is emerging as an important consideration for operators, investors, and policymakers," said Cora Olsen, Director of Sustainability & Regeneration at atNorth. "We hope to contribute practical insights to the growing discussion around the role of biodiversity in infrastructure development."
