Nordic data center operator atNorth announced its participation in the UN COP17 Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP 17) taking place in Yerevan, Armenia, on October 28, 2026. The company will share practical experiences and lessons learned from embedding biodiversity considerations into its digital infrastructure development strategy.

The conference, themed 'Taking Action for Nature,' is the first formal review of progress towards the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework's 2030 targets. atNorth will join discussions on how infrastructure providers can integrate nature considerations into the planning, construction, and operation of data centers.

As digitalization accelerates, demand for data center capacity is growing. Attention is now expanding beyond energy and carbon to broader environmental impacts of development, including biodiversity. atNorth will present concrete examples such as biodiversity monitoring programs, conservation initiatives, and heat reuse partnerships contributing to circular resource use.

"The conversation around sustainable digital infrastructure has traditionally focused on carbon, energy, and efficiency. While these remain critical priorities, biodiversity is emerging as another important consideration for operators, investors, and policymakers," said Cora Olsen, Director of Sustainability & Regeneration at atNorth. "We hope to contribute practical insights to the growing discussion on the role of biodiversity in infrastructure development."
